Toland, Anne Elizabeth (MacKinnon) 93, formerly of South Boston, Charlestown, a long time resident of Wollaston, and a recent resident of Hanover died peacefully in Pembroke on January 30 surrounded by her family.
Beloved wife of the late Dennis P. Toland and loving and devoted mother of Eugene Toland, Maryknoll Missioner, Robert Toland of Pembroke married to Patricia, Richard Toland of Kingston, John Toland of Pembroke, married to Maryann, Linda Vogel of Port Charlotte, Fla. married to Michael, and Susan Mullin of Quincy married to Luke. Anne was a wonderfully caring grandmother of Patrick, Cathleen, Richard, Ann, Colleen, Bridget, Brian, John, Daniel, Gary, and Stephen, and great-grandmother of Kaitlin, Taylor Marie, Kyleigh, Shannon, Morgan, Caci, Bryan, Lauryn, Riley, Brady, Isabelle, Bobbie and Maggie. She was sister to Florence Harrison of Scituate and Hugh MacKinnon of Braintree, the late Brenton MacKinnon of Winchester, Doris Fish of Michigan, Margaret Hansen of Norwood, Donald MacKinnon of Norwell, John MacKinnon of Norwell, William MacKinnon of Hingham and Ruth DeVoy of Whitman.
Anne was born to Elizabeth Snow MacKinnon and John MacKinnon in South Boston on November 9, 1915. Anne was raised in South Boston and graduated from South Boston High School in 1933. In Wollaston she was a member of the St. Ann’s Parish Legion of Mary and a Eucharistic Minister at Quincy City Hospital and local nursing homes. Having been raised in childhood in the Baptist church she always considered herself ecumenical respecting peoples of all faiths. Anne had a particular devotion to the mission work of Maryknoll priests, brothers, sisters and lay missioners. Her life revolved around her family and loved family reunions and visits. She was a gifted oil painter, enjoyed playing guitar and piano, loved country music and dancing, was a skilled gardener and an avid Red Sox fan. Family and friends knew her as a sociable and energetic woman, an outgoing conversationalist and caring neighbor.
A Funeral Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated on February 5 at 11:30 AM at St. Ann’s church, 757 Hancock St. Wollaston. Burial will be at Pine Hill Cemetery, Quincy. Visiting hours Wednesday, Feb. 4 from 4-8 PM at Keohane Funeral Home, 785 Hancock St., Wollaston.
