Obituary

William J. Joyce, a long-time Medford resident died Tuesday at Bear Hill Nursing Home. He was 76.

Born and raised in Dorchester, he was the son of the late Patrick and the late Frances (Dolan) Joyce. Bill served in the Army during the Korean War and then went on to graduate from Boston College with the class of 1959. Bill soon embarked on a long and successful banking career at the Arlington Five Cent Savings Bank and The East Boston Savings Bank achieving the rank of Vice-President. Bill was an avid fan of the Boston Red Sox and the Boston Bruins. A voracious reader, he had hundreds of books in his library. Bill played the piano and loved to sing. He was a member of the Wakefield Choral Society and St. Francis Parish Choir where he also served as president of the Holy Name Society. Bill was also a dedicated volunteer for Mystic Valley Elder Services and a friend to many at North Beach in Hampton New Hampshire where he and his family vacationed.

A dear and devoted husband to Janice M. (Donahue) Joyce, Bill was the loving father of William Joyce, Jr. and his wife Claire of Canton, Christopher Joyce and his wife Patricia of North Kingstown, RI, Susanne Joyce and her partner Joel Zarrella of Melrose, Patrick Joyce of Miami, FL, David Joyce and his wife Laurieanne of Stoneham, Brian Joyce of Boston. He was a cherished and loving grandfather to Hannah, Gabriela, Alex, Cameron, Maeve and Siobhan. He was the dear brother of Dorothy Joyce of Quincy, Margaret "Trish" Gallagher of Hingham, Marie Brewster of Ormond Beach, FL and the late Mary Cannon, Joseph, Robert, and Thomas Joyce.

His funeral will be from the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St., Medford, Saturday at 8:30 AM followed by a funeral mass celebrated in St. Francis of Assisi Church, 441 Fellsway West, Medford, at 9:30 AM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours Friday 4 - 8. Services will conclude with burial at Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford.
