Obituary

SALEM - Sophia E. “Emily (Siemontkowski) Whalen, aged 100, formerly of Salem, wife of the late Howard J. Whalen, died Saturday, January 24, 2009 at the Essex Park Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, Beverly.

Born in Chelsea, she was the daughter of the late Francis and Anna (Sobocinska) Siemontkowski.

Mrs. Whalen was employed at the General Electric Company in Lynn during WWII.

A resident of Salem for many years, she was a member of the Women’s Polish American Citizens Club and the AARP and was a parishioner of the St. John The Baptist Church, Salem.

She is survived by nieces and nephews including Norman Walczak of Peabody. She was predeceased by two brothers, William Siemontkowski and Francis Siemontkowski and two sisters, Hedwig Ziencina and Wanda Walczak. All three sisters lived to celebrate their 100th birthdays.

Her funeral Mass will be celebrated Wednesday, January 28, 2009 at 10 am at the St. John The Baptist Church, 28 St. Peter St., Salem. Relatives and friends respectfully invited. There are no visiting hours. Burial is in St. Mary Cemetery, Salem. Funeral Arrangements are by the Full-Spychalski Funeral Home, 84 Washington Square East, by Salem Common, Salem.
