John A. Irvine 78 of Standish, Maine and Sarasota, Florida formerly of Whitman, died in Sarasota, Florida on January 21st after a brief illness. He was the beloved husband for fifty-three years to Mary (Nee) Irvine.
Born in Paisley, Scotland he was the son of the late William and Elizabeth (McConnel) Irvine.
Before his retirement John was employed by Conrail for twenty-seven years and was a proud member of the Teamsters’ Union Local 25.
In addition to his beloved wife Mary he is survived by his loving children Deirdre Kelly of East Bridgewater, Mary Hurley and her husband Paul of Standish Maine, Kathleen Sachetta and her husband James of East Bridgewater, Joan Dunne and her husband Thomas of Halifax, Jacqueline Litif and her husband Marc of Standish Maine, and John Irvine and his wife Michele of East Bridgewater, his sister Elizabeth “Betty” Irvine of Clearwater, FL. He is also survived by fifteen grandchildren and one great- grandson.
His services will be held Wednesday January 28th at 8:15 AM from the Blanchard Funeral Chapel Plymouth Street (Rt. 58 at the rotary) Whitman, followed by a funeral mass at 9 AM in the Holy Ghost Church, Whitman. Burial will follow in the St. James Cemetery, Whitman. Visiting hours will be held Tuesday January 27th from 4-8 PM.
