John Felton Watson, 77, of Fitzgerald died Tuesday, January 20, 2009, at his residence.
Funeral services will be held 2 P.M., Friday, January 23, 2009, at the Paulk Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Godfrey O’Rear officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 until 9 on Thursday evening at the funeral home.
Mr. Watson was born July 12, 1931 in Toombs County, Georgia to the late William N. and Fannie E. Thornton Watson. He lived in the community most of his life. Mr. Watson graduated from Lyons High School and attended Brewton Parker College. He was retired owner/operator of Watson’s Handy Shop, Watson’s Used Cars, Watson’s Trailer Park, Westwood Trailer Park and Monitor Trailer Park. Mr. Watson was a member of the Elks, the Moose Lodge and was a member of the Methodist faith. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War.
He is survived by wife of 50 years, Virginia McElmurray Watson of Fitzgerald; daughter and son-in-law, Carol Watson & Michael T. Blake of Athens; granddaughter, Mica E. Blake of Athens; sister, Dorothy W. Turner of Burbank, CA, as well as, several nieces and nephews. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Edward Watson.
