Obituary


NEW BEDFORD — John F. Ellis, age 84, of Whaler's Cove, and formerly of Freetown, died Sunday, January 18, 2009, at New Bedford Healthcare Center. He was the husband of Esther Nadeau.

Born in New Bedford, son of the late George and Mabel (Mosher) Ellis, he was a veteran of the U.S. Army during World War II and the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict. Mr. Ellis was the recipient of the Victory Medal, the Good Conduct Medal and the Asiatic Pacific Theater Campaign Ribbon.

For many years, Mr. Ellis was employed by Revere, Copper and Brass and then worked for John Jarvis Construction Company. He was a former member of the Fin, Fur and Feather Club.

In addition to his wife, Esther he is survived by daughters, Linda Mastradnato of Fairhaven, Julie Dubois and husband, Leo of Lakeville, Denise Ferreira and husband, Bob of Florida; sons, David Ellis and wife, Cheryl of Mattapoisett, Gary Ellis of Texas, Donald Ellis and wife, Barbara of Boston and John Ellis Jr., of New Jersey; grandchildren, Karen and Lisa Machado, Sarah and Ann Marie Dubois, Sophia and Samuel Ellis and Jeannie Bowman; and many great-grandchildren

He was father of the late Bruce Ellis.

Private arrangements are with the Wilson Chapel, 479 County St., New Bedford.
