Obituary

Martin Ortega, a resident of Charlestown and formerly of Dorchester, died on Sunday, January 18, 2009, at his home in Charlestown after a long battle with brain cancer. He was 48 years old.

Martin was born on July 5, 1960, in Aguadilla, Puerto Rico. He grew up in Dorchester where he attended Boston Public Schools. He worked for several years at Federal Mogul Brake Manufacturer before the company moved. Martin had been working as a driver for Partner's Health Care for the last 3 years before his illness prevented him from working.

Martin is the beloved husband of 27 years to Dianne L. (Smith) Ortega. He is the devoted father of Anne Marie Sanneh and her husband Alpha of Everett and Daniel J. Ortega of Sandwich. He is the loving grandfather of Nathaniel Martin Sanneh. He is the beloved son of Antonia (Jimenez) Ortega and the late Santos T. Ortega. He is the beloved brother of Zenaida Ortega and her partner Maureen, Ana Hamilton, Hiram Ortega and his wife Maria, Migdalia Cuevas and her husband Everaldo, Laura Ortega, Jose Ortega and his wife Nicole, David Ortega and Damaris Ortega. He is the beloved son-in-law of the late Joan Smith. He is the beloved brother-in-law of Joan M. Smith. He is the dear friend of Kearney Kirby and Eliza McCroskey. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend visiting hours on Thursday, January 22, 2009, from 4 to 8 p.m. followed by a Funeral Service at 8 p.m. in The Carr Funeral Home, 220 Bunker Hill Street, Charlestown. Cremation will take place following his funeral service.
