Martinez, GA---Mr. Albert Willie Lee Nix, Sr., 85, entered into rest on Monday, January 19, 2009 at his residence.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 23, 2009 at 2:00 pm, in the Platt’s Crawford Avenue Chapel with Reverend James McDaniel officiating. Interment will follow at Westover Memorial Park, with military honors by the US Navy.
Mr. Nix was a native and lifelong resident of Augusta, born November 29, 1923. He, before his retirement in 1982, was a self-employed Home Decorator. He entered the US Navy at age 18 in 1941. He served with distinction during World War II. He served in the European Theater, Middle Eastern, Asiatic-Pacific and Philippines campaigns. He participated in 6 invasions, including D-Day and Omaha Beach and received several medals, including the Bronze Star. He was aboard the USS Thomas Jefferson. Mr. Nix was an ordained and licensed minister, in the Full Gospel Fellowship and attended the Dearing Full Gospel Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Daniel and Lula Mae Johnson Nix, daughter, Paula Nix, brother, Charlie Nix, sister, Kathryn Patterson and 1st wife, Dorothy Johnson Nix
Survivors include, his wife of 29 years, Madeleine Nix of Martinez, sons, Albert Nix, Jr. and wife, Carol of Douglasville, GA, Glenn McFerrin and wife, Joann of Stafford Springs, CT, daughters, Dorothy Lankster and husband, Charles of Augusta, GA, Sarah Johnson of Roanoke, VA, Debby McFerrin of Aiken, SC, Lenora Asbill and husband, Forrest of Plum Branch, SC, Vickie McFerrin of Augusta, GA, eight grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren and lifelong friend and brother in Christ, Reverend Eddie Renew.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, January 22, 2009, from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm, at Platt’s Crawford Avenue.
Pallbearers will be Willie Spears, Nick Spears, Cory James, Tyler James, Chris McFerrin and Jamie Patterson
