Maria C. (Damasio) Furtado of Bridgewater died in her home Jan. 18th. She was 86. Maria was born raised and educated in St. Michael, Azores and had made her home in Bridgewater the past 40 years. She was the daughter of the late Maria De Jesus (Borges) and Manuel Sousa Damasio. Maria loved to cook, work in her vegetable garden and was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Church and frequently attended mass at St. Basil Catholic Center. She was the wife of the late Joao M. Furtado and was the mother of Jose M. Furtado and his wife Teresa of Bridgewater and John C. Furtado and his wife Ana of Taunton. She was also a loving grandmother to Catharine Furtado of Bourne, Linda and James Furtado of Bridgewater, Mark, Emily and Matthew Furtado of Taunton. Maria was also survived by several nieces and nephews as well as grandnieces and grandnephews. Funeral from the Prophett-Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 98 Bedford St. (Rt.18) Bridgewater on Friday, Jan 23 at 8:00 am. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9:00 am in St. Thomas Aquinas Church, Bridgewater. Visiting hours Thurs. 4-8pm.
