New Bedford – Private Funeral services were held Yesterday for Irene (deMelo) Ponte Oliveira who died January 15, 2009 at St. Lukes Hospital. She was the wife of the late Manuel P. Ponte and Manuel Oliveira. She is survived by 1 Brother Alfred deMelo of Dartmouth, and several nieces and nephews. Mrs Oliveira was the sister of the late Constantina Duarte, Maria Sabino, Filomena Costa, Manuel, Jose, Silvestre, Alberto and Antonio deMelo,
Mrs. Oliveira was the daughter of the late Constantina (Cabral) and Alexandre deMelo. She was born in New Bedford and lived in this area all her life. Mrs Oliveira worked as a stitcher at Belmont Manufacturer. She was a communicant of Mt. Carmel Church.
