Obituary

Jean Ann (Sullivan) (D’Alessandro) Joyce of East Bridgewater, formerly of Whitman and Avon, died Thursday January 15th after a period of failing health. She was the wife of the late Joseph T. Joyce.

Born and raised in Milton she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Clare (Buckley) Sullivan and a graduate of Milton High Class of 1948.

She graduated from Carney Hospital School of Nursing in Dorchester as a Registered Nurse and went on to work at the hospital for twenty years and was instrumental in opening the hospital’s first daycare center. She loved being an emergency room nurse at Carney Hospital and at one point Jean, her daughter Kathleen, Jean’s sister Margery and her daughter Patty Ann all worked together as Registered Nurses at the Carney.

Jean cherished spending time with her children and grandchildren; she also loved cooking, painting and gardening.

Jean was the loving mother of eight children with Harry S. D’Alessandro; Kathleen Mary Morley of Hanover, Therese Ann MacVarish and her husband Fran of Marshfield, Paul Harry D’ Alessandro and his wife Valerie of Leominster, Thomas D’Alessandro and his wife Pamela of Kingston, Maria Jean Gerrish and her husband John of Bridgewater, Joseph D’Alessandro of Bridgewater, Christina Welsh and her husband James of Bridgewater and Stephen D’Alessandro and his wife Lisa of Hanover.

Grandmother to Michelle, Christopher and Stephen MacVarish, Katelyn, Heidi and Hannah D’Alessandro, Stacy Crotty, Brett Williams and Sherri D’Alessandro, Elizabeth, Sean and Brian Gerrish, Michael and Christopher D’Alessandro, Jennifer, Kerri and Jimmy Welsh, Stephen D’Alessandro and Jason Gallagher and Great Grandmother to Gavin and Colin MacVarish, Ella Crotty, and Tia MacVarish.

She was the sister of Margery Phillips of Milton, Nancy Bergen of Hull, Kathy Huhtanen of East Hartford, CT, and the late Clare Walker, Louise Sullivan and Leo Sullivan

Her funeral service will be held Monday January 19th at 9 AM in St. Michael’s Church, Avon. Burial will follow in the St. James Cemetery, Whitman. Visiting hours will be held Sunday January 18th from 4-8 PM in the Blanchard Funeral Chapel Plymouth Street (Rt. 58 at the rotary) Whitman. Donations in her name may be made to the Sachem Skilled Nursing & Rehab Center 66 Central Street, East Bridgewater, MA 02333.
