Obituary

Rev. Robert B. McKittrick, 81, of Pine Isle Dr., Derry, NH died Friday, May 16, 2003 at the Parkland Medical Center in Derry following a brief illness. He was born in Brooklyn, NY on January 2, 1922, a son of the late Wadsworth and Alice (Grimaldi) “Cooper” McKittrick. He was a resident of Derry since 1998 formerly living in Longmont, Colo. He was a US Army WWII Veteran. He graduated from Shelton College and Providence Bible Institute, later called Barrington College and currently the United College of Gordon and Barrington. In 1981 he was awarded Citizen of the Year in Parkersburg, Iowa. In 1983 he was honored as Alumni of the Year for Barrington College. Rev. McKittrick was the Minister of Senior Visitation for the Central Congregational Church in Derry. He had served Churches in New York, Ohio, Wisconsin, Iowa and Colorado. He had also served as a chaplain for a retirement village in Nebraska. Rev. McKittrick was the current summer Pastor for the South Barnstead Congregational Church in South Barnstead. He was a member of the Conservative Congregational Christian Conference where he served on the board for many years, and served as the editor of the Congregational Christian. “Pastor Bob” was known as an excellent Bible teacher and people responded to his ministry. This coming fall, “Pastor Bob” would have celebrated 50 years in the ministry. He had a wonderful sense of humor and was loved by so many. He was always very civic minded and was involved in many community programs throughout the years, as well as having served in Rotary International in Colorado and Iowa

He is survived by his wife, Henriette (Kothe) McKittrick of Derry, three sons, Bancroft McKittrick of Derry, John McKittrick of California, Douglas McKittrick of Georgia, three daughters, Barbara McKittrick of Derry, Robin Vrieland of South Carolina, Laurene Haavisto of Londonderry, 11 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, and one sister, Mercedes Gabel of Colorado. He was predeceased by one daughter, Cherlyn.

Calling hours will be held on Sunday, May 18th from 2 – 5 in the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 15 Birch St., Derry. A memorial service will be held on Sunday evening at 6:00 at the Central Congregational Church, Crescent St., Derry. Following cremation, private graveside services will be held at the Forest Hill Cemetery in E. Derry. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Central Congregational Church, Crescent St., Derry, NH 03038 or to the National Kidney Assoc., 11 Vanderbilt Ave., Suite 105, Norwood, MA 02062.
