Obituary

George T. Taber, Sr., 88, of New Bedford died Tuesday January 13, 2009 at St. Luke's Hospital after a brief illness. He was the husband of Ivy L. (Ayre) Taber.

Born in New Bedford, the son of the late William N. and Alice E. (Johnson) Taber, he lived in New Bedford all of his life.

He was a member of Centre Trinity United Methodist Church.

Mr. Taber was formerly employed as a roll thread operator at Continental Screw Company.

During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army. He enjoyed bowling and golf.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, George T. Taber and his wife Linda of Prince George, VA, and Douglas M. Taber and his wife Kathleen of Wareham; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

He was the brother of the late William Taber, Alice Medeiros, Grace Borden, and Pearl Borden.

His Funeral Service will be held on Saturday at 9:30 AM at the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford. Burial with military honors will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery. Visiting hours Friday 2-7 PM.
