Lucille Rose Novak Noonan died on Tuesday January 13th, 2009 after a long illness.
Lucille was born July 12, 1918 to Frank and Rose Novak in Cicero, Illinois. In November 1942 she traveled to Fort Des Moines, Iowa, to attend Officer Candidate School for the Women’s Army Corps. Her Army service was her life’s proudest accomplishment. During a deployment at Fort Sill, Oklahoma, she met and married Thomas J. Noonan, also an Army officer.
After her discharge as a 1st Lieutenant in October 1945, she and her husband settled in Boston and started a family. In the years that followed, Lucille moved to New York, Michigan, Connecticut, and finally Needham, Massachusetts. She had two children, a son Thomas Jeffrey – known as Jeff, and a daughter, Denise.
Lucille had many interests, which she pursued with energy and skill. She was a tireless advocate for her son’s special needs, a creative Boy Scout and Girl Scout Troop Leader, and a talented craftswoman. Many of her dearest friends were made in needlework and crafts groups. She was an election poll worker in both Needham and Greenwich, CT.
Lucille’s warmth, graciousness, generosity, and positive outlook made her a wonderful friend and family member. Christmas was her favorite time of the year because she exchanged greetings with hundreds of people whom she had met wherever she lived and wherever she traveled. She had a gift for making and keeping connections with people over her long life.
