TEWKSBURY - Thomas J. Mullane Sr., age 79, died Thursday, May 15, at Saints MemorialMedical Center in Lowell after a brief illness. He was the husband of Catherine (Burns) Mullane,with whom he had celebrated a 54th wedding anniversary last Sept. 12th.
He was born in Peabody, Mass, April 19, 1924, a son of the late Thomas and Beatrice (Jeffers)Mullane. He was raised in Peabody, and lived in Somerville before moving to Tewksbury in1954.
During WWII, he served in the Army, and received a Purple Heart for wounds sustained duringthe D-Day Battle at Omaha Beach in Normandy.
Upon return to the U.S. he Graduated from Boston College, and became a salesman for HamelLeather Company, based in Haverhill.
He was a member of the B.C. Alumni Association, a communicant of St. William’s Church, amember of the Fr. Coppen’s Council # 4331, Knights of Columbus in Tewksbury, and served onthe original Tewksbury Memorial High School Building Committee.
Besides his wife, he is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Thomas J. and Mary (Gillis)Mullane Jr. of Rye, NH, Stephen A. and Julianne (Jennings) Mullane of Tewksbury, a brother andsister-in-law, James and Frances Mullane of Topsfield, and five grandchildren, Ellen, Julie, Stephen, Lauren, and Maura Mullane.
He was also father of the late Diane Mullane who died in 197, and brother of the late JaneMcNeil.
His FuneralMass was held Tuesday, May 19, in St. William’s Church. Burial with Army honors was in Tewksbury Cemetery.
