Obituary

Roy Chester Joyner, 86, passed away Sunday, January 11, 2009 at the Baptist Memorial Hospital – N MS in Oxford, MS. He was born March 21, 1922 to Joe E. and Ina Watson Joyner in Panola County, MS. He worked for at the Valley Stave Co. and Big Yank, twenty years each. He served during WWII in the United Sates Army earning the Purple Heart and Bronze Star. He was a member of the Water Valley VFW and the 29th Infantry Club and attended the First Christian Church in Water Valley, MS.

The visitation will be held Monday, January 12, 2009 from 5 to 7 PM at Seven Oaks Funeral Home in Water Valley, MS. The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, January 13, 2009 at 11:00 AM in Henry Chapel of Seven Oaks Funeral Home with Bro David Freeman presiding. The committal will be held in Oak Hill Cemetery in Water Valley, MS.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Ruthie Martin Joyner of Water Valley, MS; a daughter Beverly J. Davis (Jerry) of Water Valley, MS; two sons, Mike Joyner (Carol) of Amory, MS, and Joey Joyner (Amy) of Water Valley, MS; six grandchildren, Andrea Clement (Lance) of Water Valley, MS, Chad Joyner and Blake Joyner – both of Amory, MS, Chancie Joyner, Chestin Joyner and Logan Joyner – all of Water Valley, MS; two step-grandchildren, Sarah Easley and Jamie Easley – both of New Albany, MS; three great grandchildren, Cooper Clement, Coulter Clement, and Chloe Clement; and a sister-in-law, Thela Martin of Water Valley, MS.
