James “Jim” Oberhelman passed away peacefully at his home on January 9th at the age of 70.
He will be sadly missed by his wife of 47 years, Mary Oberhelman; his daughter Kathy Parker and her husband Ted of Groton; and his daughter Susan Cohen and her husband Mitch of San Francisco. He will also be missed by his five grandchildren: Russell and Caroline Parker and Alex, Josh and Rebecca Cohen.
Jim and Mary relocated to Mystic 12 years ago from Scarsdale, NY. He was born and raised in Cincinnati, Ohio.
After graduating from the University of Cincinnati, he joined the Navy and served in New London at the Underwater Sound Lab for 3 years. He earned his MBA from Northwestern University and pursued a career in Finance with Pfizer, Bristol Myers, and American Express. Most recently, Jim was a partner in Bard Technologies.
Jim enjoyed golf and was a member of the Stonington Country Club. He also spent many years playing tennis at Fox Meadow Tennis Club in Scarsdale, NY. Jim served as an Elder at Hitchcock Presbyterian Church also in Scarsdale, NY and was Chairman of the Finance Committee for the Presbytery of Hudson River. He enjoyed travel, and recently completed a hiking trip to Machu Picchu and a barge trip in France. His greatest joy, however, was spending time with his five grandchildren.
A service celebrating Jim’s life will be held on Saturday February 7th at 11am at Mystic Congregational Church.
