John Armstrong, of Allen Avenue, North Providence formerly of Sutton Street, Smithfield died Saturday, January 10, 2009 in the Heritage Hills Nursing Center, Smithfield. He was the husband of Millie M. (Shumchenia) Armstrong.
Born in Boston, MA, he had lived in North Providence previously living in Smithfield.
He had been a supervisor at Electric Boat in North Kingstown before retiring in 1992.
He was an Army Veteran of the Korean War and had been a coach in several youth sports teams in Smithfield.
He was an avid Red Sox fan and was devoted to his family. Anyone who came in contact with him could not help but to love him.
He is also survived by a daughter, Ashley Armstrong of North Providence, a step-son, Gary Sansone and his wife Rhonda of North Providence and a granddaughter, Kristen Borden. He was the step-father of the late Deborah Sansone.
A Memorial Mass will be held Tuesday at 9:30am in St. Philip Church, 622 Putnam Pike, Smithfield. In lieu of flowers donations in his memory may be made to the Heritage Hills Activity Department, 80 Douglas Pike, Smithfield, RI 02917 or Beacon Hospice, 1 Catamore Blvd, East Providence, RI 02914.
