Obituary:
Taunton; Ambrose “Slim” Allen West, a lifelong Taunton resident, died suddenly on Friday, Jan.9, 2009 at his Norton Ave. home. He was 76 years of age. He was the husband of Lorraine (Amaral) West.
He was born in Taunton, son of the late Ambrose A. West and Eva (Busiere) West.
Mr. West worked for the former Rubin Farms in Norton for over 20 years, as a truck driver.
He retired in 1982. He also worked for the George H. Shaw Co. in Middleboro for several years. He was a graduate of Taunton Vocational School. He and his wife had attended the Union Congregational Church in Taunton for many years.
In his spare time Ambrose raced stock cars at Seekonk, Thompson Connecticut, and Starr Speedway. He also coached Little League in Taunton for many years. He enjoyed playing cards, motorcycles, fishing, hunting, and boating.
In addition to his wife Lorraine, he is survived by 6 children; Rodger A. Salley, Sharon L. West-Pachak, Ambrose A. West Jr., Shirley Dyer-all of Taunton; Wendy Guerrin of N. Dighton, and Eva Guillemette of E. Taunton. He also leaves 9 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. West’s funeral will be held on Wednesday at 1:00 PM. At the Taunton Funeral Home, 8 Crapo Street, off Tremont Street. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
Visiting hours will be on Tuesday from 4 - 8 PM. at the funeral home.
