
Ruth Stott Peters, beloved wife of Lovett Chase Peters, died on Sunday, January 4th, at the age of 92. The couple had just celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary in September. Ruth was born January 13, 1916 in Andover, MA, daughter of Ruth Binkerd Stott and Frederic W.H. Stott. She graduated from Abbott Academy, Andover, and was a member of the class of 1938 at Smith College, where she attended her 70th Reunion in June. Cherished mother of Ruth “Binky” Stephenson Strom and husband John of Houston TX; Daniel Stott Peters and wife Kellie of Cincinnati; Ohio, Samuel Kittredge Peters of Needham, MA; Gayle Peters Coates, widow of Ruth’s late son Charles Adams Peters, II of Williamsport PA. She was a loving grandmother to Blalock “Blake” Stephenson III, Ruth Binkerd Stephenson Emrick, Kittredge Taylor Stephenson, Andrew Kittredge Peters II, Julia Hannah Peters, Abigail Christine Peters, Wesley Chase Peters, and great grandmother of Weldon Oak Emrick. She is survived by her sister Helen Stott Spencer of Conway MA, and devoted nieces and nephews; Predeceased by her brother Frederic A. Stott. She was deeply involved and supportive of Pioneer Institute for Public Policy Research, a think tank founded 20-years ago by her husband after his retirement. Ruth was vitally interested in national and civic affairs, and an avid supporter of charter schools. She read weekly to young children at the Salvation Army School in West Roxbury; was President of the Chestnut Hill Garden Club and a leader in local beautification projects; active in her church and Altar Guild member since 1969; member of Bible Study Fellowship; energetic and faithful board member of The Dedham Temporary Home for Women and Children; Newton Republican Club Woman of the Year; devoted supporter of The Charles River Association for Retarded Citizens, home of her youngest son. Ruth was an avid tennis player all her life. A member of The Country Club, The Edgartown Yacht Club, and The Chilton Club, where she was a longtime member of its Book Club. A beautiful, enthusiastic and deeply committed woman, she spent her life doing for her family and others. A condolence epitomized Ruth’s life: “She was pure and living joy!” A memorial service will be held Saturday, January 24 at 11:00 AM, at The Church of the Redeemer, Chestnut Hill.
