Paul G. Wetterholm, 84 years of Brockton died January 8, 2009 surrounded by his loving family and under the comforting care of the Brockton Hospital Transitional Care Unit. He had been the beloved husband of the late Ruth A. (Bassett) Wetterholm for 59 years.
Paul was born and raised in Brockton a son of the late Hussey and Evelyn (Duquette) Wetterholm and remained a lifelong resident of the city. He interrupted his education at Brockton High School to enlist in the US Army during WW II and served in the African-European Theatre. Paul was discharged as a sergeant, receiving a Purple Heart and returned to Brockton High School to graduate.
Paul retired from the Brockton Edison Company after a 42 year career. He had also worked part time at the Raynham-Taunton Dog Track. Though he enjoyed working around his yard, Paul most enjoyed his retirement years with his wife Ruth and also supporting his grandchildren’s athletic and scholastic endeavors.
In his recent years, Paul enjoyed reconnecting with his fellow Brockton veterans over weekly coffee. He had been a communicant of Our Lady of Lourdes Church for over 20 years and previously St. Colman’s Church for many years.
Paul was the loving father of Sue A. Creedon and her husband Kevin, Paul F. Wetterholm and his wife Judith, Cathy A. Sawyer and her husband Wendell all of Brockton, Jay F. Wetterholm of Bridgewater and the late Jan Wetterholm. He was the devoted grandfather of Brendan Creedon, Sally Creedon-Mooney, Patrick Creedon, Keri Sawyer, Mark Wetterholm and the late Christopher Sawyer. Brother of the Rev. Lawrence E. Wetterholm of Boston and the late Donald and Richard Wetterholm.
Funeral from the Conley Funeral Home 138 Belmont St. (Rte 123) Brockton Monday at 9:30 am. Funeral Mass in Our Lady of Lourdes Church at 10:30 am. Burial in Calvary Cemetery. Visiting hours Sunday 2-6 pm.
