Mary Nerney, 99, formerly of Lake Washington Drive, died peacefully surrounded by her family, January 6, 2009 at St. Elizabeth Home. She was the widow of Thomas Nerney.
Born in Carrickmacross, County Monaghan, Ireland, she was a daughter of the late Michael and Mary (Casey) Marron. She had previously been a resident of New York City.
Mary was a lab assistant for Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center before retiring. She loved to crochet, garden and cook for her family.
She is survived by her children, Sr. Mary Nerney, CND of NYC, NY, Dr. Anne Balboni, Psy.D of Cranston, Thomas Nerney of Wakefield, James M. Nerney of The Villages, FL, her eleven grandchildren & thirteen great grandchildren. She was the mother of the late John J. Nerney and sister of the late Annie Hughes, Clare Martin, Alice Greene, Nellie Flanagan, Julia Murray, Margaret Hoey, Michael, Patrick and James Marron.
Her funeral will be held Friday at 9am from the ANDERSON-WINFIELD Funeral Home, Route 44 at Greenville Common, Greenville. Mass of Christian Burial at 10am in St. Robert Bellarmine Church, 1804 Atwood Avenue, Johnston. Burial will be in St. Patrick’s Cemetery. Visitation Thursday 4-8pm.
