Obituary

William C. Pierce, 87, of Pine Hill Rd., Westport passed away Wednesday, January 7, 2009 at St. Luke’s Hospital after a brief illness. He was husband of the late Edna M. (Slocum) Pierce.

Born in Westport, son of the late Charles A. and Ann (Cummings) Pierce, he was a lifelong resident of Westport. Upon graduation from Westport High School, he served his country in the United States Army during WWII. He was co-owner and operator of Berry Hill Farm in Westport and was the former Deputy Police Chief for the Town of Westport. He was a Communicant of St. John the Baptist Church, Westport. Mr. Pierce was a member of the Massachusetts Cultivated Blueberry Association, the Retired Police Association, the American Legion Post 145 of Westport and was past president of the Massachusetts Blueberry Association. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, but most of all enjoyed spending time with his family.

Survivors include a son: Robert W. Pierce and his wife Cynthia of Westport; a brother: James W. Pierce of Westport; 5 grandchildren: Sue Ann Pierce-Madden, Matthew Pierce, Jennifer Lee Pierce-Durot, Bethany M. Pierce-Klos and Brittany E. Pierce; 6 great grandchildren: Alexander R. Pierce-Mercer, Hope E. Durot, Rebecca E. Pierce, Paige E. Klos, Pierce R. Klos and Ivy Mae Madden; and several nieces and nephews.

He was father of the late Charles Pierce and brother of the late Anna Willette.

Funeral to which relatives and friends are invited will be Saturday, January 10, 2009 at the Potter Funeral Home at 10:00 A.M.

Calling hours Friday 5 - 8 P.M.

Interment in Beech Grove Cemetery, Westport.
