Mario Fernandes, Jr., age 81 of Westport, passed away in Westport, January 6, 2009. Husband of Cecilia E. (Silvia) Fernandes to whom he was married for 56 years. Son of the late Mario Fernandes, Sr. and Mary (Aguiar) Fernandes. Born in Fall River, he was a resident of Westport for 2 years and previously of Tiverton. He was a retired warehouseman at Quonset Point Naval Base and a U.S. Navy Veteran of WW II.
Besides his wife of Westport, he is survived by 3 children: Marlene Fernandes Amaral and her husband Joseph, Mario Fernandes III and his wife Lori and Nancy Roy and her husband Michael all of Tiverton; 1 brother: Edwin Fernandes of Westport; 6 grandchildren: Jolene Durand, Melissa Saporito, Allison & Daniel Fernandes, and Sophie & Michael Roy: 4 great grandchildren and several nieces & nephews. He was brother of the late Laurence Fernandes.
His funeral following cremation will take place in the Manuel Rogers & Sons Funeral Home, 1521 No.Main St., Wednesday at 10 A.M. with burial in Beech Grove Cemetery at 11 A.M. Calling hours Tuesday 4-7 P.M. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to your charity of choice.
