Obituary

Thomas G. Ward, age 88, died Sunday, Jan. 4, 2009 at his home in Lowell surrounded by his loving family after an extended illness. He was the husband of the late Doris G. (Marquis) Ward who died in 1992.

He was born in Lowell on March 20, 1920, the son of the late Thomas and Eva (Dumais) Ward. Tom attended St. Patrick Grammar School and graduated from Lowell High School. He then went on to Lowell Trade School where he studied drafting.

He was a lifelong resident of the Pawtucketville section of Lowell and a communicant of the Parish of St. Rita where he was a member of the Holy Name Society for many years. Tom proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during WWII having served in the Philippines and the Solomon Islands on PT boats.

Prior to his retirement in 1988, he was employed as a hydraulic calibrator with Raytheon in Andover for 34 years. Earlier in his life, Tom worked with Boston and Maine Railroad for 18 years and also worked in the CC's during the depression performing mapping in Wyoming.

He enjoyed golfing, bowling, swimming and was a big fan of the Red Sox but most of all, he loved spending time with his loving family.

He is survived by his three sons and two daughters-in-law, Gerald and Elizabeth Ward of Dracut, Kenneth Ward, with whom he resided in Lowell and his fiancee, Barbara Chisholm of Hudson, MA, and Mark and Sandra Ward of Plaistow, NH; his grandchildren, Shawn Ward and his wife Emily of Lowell, Timothy Ward and his girlfriend Bridget Baran of Melrose, and Jessica and Allison Ward of Plaistow, NH; a sister, Theresa Clark of Dracut; two brothers and a sister-in-law, John Ward and James and Frances Ward, all of Florida; also many nieces and nephews including a dear niece. Ruth Martel and her husband Richard of Tewksbury and their children; a sister-in-law, Theresa Forest of Dracut, the wife of the late Andre Forest who passed away on Jan. 1.

Relatives and friends may call at the M. R. LAURIN & SON FUNERAL HOME, 295 Pawtucket St., Lowell on Thursday, Jan. 8 from 4 to 8pm. His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday morning at 9 o'clock at the Parish of St. Rita. Interment in St. Mary Cemetery, Tewksbury.
