Obituary

Sutton—Francis J. “Frank” Kangas, 76, went home to heaven Sunday, January 4, 2009, at St. Vincent Hospital surrounded by his family.

He leaves his wife of 52 years, Helen Shedd Kangas, and four children—Chandler S. Kangas and his wife Arja of Holden, Tyler F. Kangas and his wife Kathyleen of Grafton, Justine A. Kangas of Worcester, and Wanda L. Wilson of Douglas. He also leaves eight grandchildren, as well as five brothers and two sisters and many nephews and nieces.

Frank was born in Worcester on November 19, 1932, the son of George and Olga (Koskiniemi) Kangas. He graduated from Commerce High School in 1952 and worked at Mechanics National Bank before serving in the U.S. Army. He then returned to work at Mechanics Bank until 1979.

Frank was a faithful member of First Assembly of God in Worcester where he served as financial secretary for 50 years. He also served as Sunday School secretary and as a deacon and trustee. After leaving the bank, he worked full-time at First Assembly as a custodian until his retirement in 1996. Frank and Helen raised their family in Douglas where he was a resident for 49 years.

Frank enjoyed gardening, blueberry-picking, painting, weaving, and other crafts in addition to restoring and maintaining his home. He was an avid puzzle-maker and also enjoyed traveling.

Calling hours will be held at First Assembly of God, Wed., Jan. 7, 5-8 p.m. The Funeral Service will be held at First Assembly of God, Thurs., Jan 8, at 1 p.m. Burial in Douglas Center Cemetery will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to 59ers Ministry at First Assembly of God, 30 Tyler Prentice Road, Worcester MA 01605.
