Randolph W. Staples, 73, of Waldoboro, Maine died on Sunday, January 4, 2009.
Randy was born on May 8, 1935 in Whitman, Massachusetts, the son of Geneva (Ryan) and Elmer F. Staples, Sr. and has resided in Waldoboro Maine since 2000. He was the husband of Susan A. (Sawyer) Staples for 49 years. Randy was a retired Whitman firefighter with 40 years of service to the Town of Whitman. He was a lifelong member of the Plymouth County Forest Wardens and a Boy Scout leader of the Explorers troop sponsored by the Whitman Fire Department. In addition, Randy was a DPW Commissioner for the town of Whitman for 6 years.
As a member of the Hanson Congregational Church, Randy served as a Deacon for 6 years and worked on the Chowder Suppers for 14 years. Randy served as a member of the National Guard from 1952-1966 and was an avid hunter and woodworker.
Randy was the brother of the late Elmer (Buddy) F. Staples Jr., Deputy Fire Chief of Whitman Fire Department, and Dorothy (Staples) Green. In addition to his wife Susan, he is survived by his daughter Jacqualyn (Staples) Totte of Whitman, his son Jeffrey A. Staples and his wife Maureen (Leahy) Staples of Waldoboro, Maine, a sister Helen L. (Staples) Ashworth of Florida, Grandchildren Robert W. Totte and Kristin M. Totte of Whitman, Shannon M. Staples, Katelyn E. Staples and Michaela M. Staples of Waldoboro Maine, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours are Wednesday, January 7th, in the Blanchard Funeral Chapel Plymouth Street (Rt. 58 at the rotary) Whitman from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. His funeral service will be held in the First Congregational Church of Hanson, Massachusetts on Thursday, January 8th at 11:00 am. Burial will follow in the Colebrook Cemetery, Whitman
