WORCESTER-Algot B. Ekstrom, 98, formerly of 6 Bjorklund Ave., died Saturday, January 3 in Beaumont Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. He leaves his wife of 69 years, Lillian I. (Carlson) Ekstrom; a daughter, Susan L. Carter and her husband Sanford of Atkinson, NH; a son, Kenneth D. Ekstrom of Gloucester, MA; a granddaughter, Pamela L. Carlisle and her husband Richard of Shreveport, LA. He also leaves a sister-in-law, Astrid Randall and her husband G. Leo Randall of Webster, and several nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by a brother, Erling L. Ekstrom and two sisters-in-law, Helen E. Lekberg and Ruth L. Eldred. He was born in Worcester, son of Rollard A. and Edla E. (Swenson) Ekstrom, graduated from Commerce High School and Worcester Junior College. He served in the Army National Guard.
Al worked for Phalo Corporation for 35 years retiring in 1981 and prior to that at Lundquist Tool and Manufacturing Company for 17 years. He was a longtime member of Bethlehem Covenant Church, the Greendale Men’s Retirement Club and the Viking Lodge-S.F.A. He was an avid bird watcher, stamp collector, loved to spend time at Cape Cod and travel. The family would like to thank the staff at Beaumont Nursing Center for the wonderful care that Al received and for making him feel like a “king” during his stay there.
A Memorial service will be held at 2:30 PM on Sunday, January 11th in Bethlehem Covenant Church, 46 Greenwood Street. Burial will be private. There are no visiting hours. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Al’s memory to the Bethlehem Covenant Church Memorial Fund, 46 Greenwood St., Worcester, MA 01607.
