Obituary

Albert Alvernaz, 88, of Mattapoisett died Thursday January 1, 2009 at the Oaks Nursing Home. He was the husband of the late Evelyn (Page) Alvernaz.

Born in Middletown, RI, the son of the late Antonio B. and Laura (Sylvia) Alvernaz, he lived in Mattapoisett most of his life.

He was a communicant of St. Anthony's Church.

Mr. Alvernaz was a radio and television technician operating Al's Radio & T.V. Service for many years.

During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army in the European Theater participating in the Battles of the Rhineland and Central Europe.
He was a member of the Dr. C.E. Burt Chapter 7 Disabled American Veterans and the Fort Phoenix Post Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was a graduate of Fairhaven High School.

Survivors include two nephews, Antone Alvernaz of Fairhaven; and Roger William Alvernaz of New Mexico; and a niece, Lenora Dugan of Fall River.
He was the brother of the late Mary Legendre, Antone Alvernaz, and William S. Alvernaz.

His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday at 10 AM in St. Anthony's Church. Burial with military honors will follow in St. John's Cemetery. Visitation Tuesday from 8:30-9:30 AM at the Saunders-Dwyer Mattapoisett Home for Funerals, 50 County Rd., Route 6, Mattapoisett.
