Obituary

Ennis, Larry E. age 78 of Emerson died Thursday, January 1, 2009. Beloved husband of Ida Ennis (nee) Formoso. Devoted father of Larry K. Ennis (Sandra), Mickey (Amy), Kevin, and Sharon deMarrais (Glenn). Loving grandfather of Casey, Mickey, Steven, Rookie, Kalette, and Garrett. Dear brother of Ed (Betty), Joe (Vivienne), Bob (Barbara), Roger and sister in law Mary. He was predeceased by his siblings Richard, Bill, and Margaret and his Goddaughter Susan Wallace DeSalvo. He is also survived by his many loving nieces and nephews and his long time friends Art and Marianne Wallace. Larry was a Graduate of Montclair State University and went on to become an industrial arts teacher at Emerson High School where he also coached football and baseball for 34 years. During his long and legendary career, Coach Ennis received many awards in recognition of his athletic achievements, both as a player and a Coach. His dedicated volunteer work with aspiring young athletes throughout the county was his gift for love of sport, sportsmanship and a winning philosophy. After retiring in 1991, he began his second career with the New York Giants Scouting Department where he was honored and proud to be a part of this franchise and continued that work until his passing. He was stationed at West Point while serving in the US Army from 1952-1954 and was a parishioner of the Church of the Assumption in Emerson. Larry Ennis has left his mark, will be sadly missed but long remembered with love, respect and gratitude. Funeral service Monday 9AM from the Volk Leber Funeral Home, 268 Kinderkamack Rd., Oradell then to the Church of the Assumption, Emerson for a 10AM Mass of Christian Burial. Entombment to follow at George Washington Memorial Park. Family and friends are invited to visit Saturday and Sunday 3-8PM. In lieu of flowers donations in his name may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Pl., Memphis, TN 38105 or to Pitch in for Baseball, In Memory of Coach Larry Ennis, 719 Locust La., Ambler, PA 19002.
