WEBSTER - Richard E. Krommer, 81, of Whitcomb Street, died peacefully in his home Thursday, January 1, surrounded by his family after a long, courageous battle with cancer.
He leaves his wife of 58 years, Elaine R. (Hoenig) Krommer; a son, Kevin R. Krommer of Dudley; two daughters, Karen E. Bussiere and Kathleen A. Krommer, both of Webster; three grandchildren, Jennifer L. Leighton, David R. Bussiere, and Kiel R. Krommer; and a great granddaughter, Maggie M. Leighton.
He was born in Webster, son of Richard P. and Viola J. (Kosmas) Krommer and was a lifelong resident. He graduated from Bartlett High School.
Mr. Krommer was an Army veteran of World War II and of the Korean War, where he proudly served as a staff sergeant for the Joint Chiefs of Staff at the Pentagon in Washington, DC. Following his military service, he owned and operated The Little Dipper Dairy Bar in Oxford. Prior to retiring in 1989, he worked as a credit manager for R. B. Sahagen Company in Rochdale.
He was a member of Saint Louis Church. He belonged to the Southern Mass. Police Association and was a former member of the Serra Club of Southern Worcester County. He was also a Notary Public for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
A devoted family man, he will be remembered for his strength, humor and undying love. His spirit will be carried on in the hearts of his family.
The funeral will be held Monday, January 5, at 10:00 AM in Saint Louis Church, 14 Lake Street. Burial will be in Mount Zion Cemetery. The Webster-Dudley Veterans Council will provide the military honors. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, donations in his name may be made to either The Jimmy Fund, c/o The Dana Farber Institute, 44 Binney St., Boston, MA 02115 or to the St.-Louis School Endowment Fund, 15 Lake St., Webster, MA 01570. Arrangements are under the direction of Scanlon Funeral Service, 38 East Main Street.
