N. DARTMOUTH — Ruth Stenberg Keith, 96, of N. Dartmouth, MA, died December 22, 2008.
She was born to the late Rachel and August Stenberg, August 28, 1912, in Boston, MA. Ruth grew up in New Bedford, MA and graduated from Barnard College in 1934.
After graduation she worked at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital where she met her future husband, Dr. Rockwood Keith of Worchester, MA. They were married in 1937.
She raised her four children in Scarsdale, NY, where she also managed the office for her husband's surgical practice and did volunteer work for the Junior League of Scarsdale.
She and her husband retired to Marion, Ma., in 1972. Ruth continued her dedication to volunteer work for many years in the Radiology Dept., of St. Luke's Hospital in New Bedford. She enjoyed golfing, skiing, sailing and gardening.
She is predeceased by her older sister, Svea Williams (1997); and her husband, Rockwood Keith (1978).
Ruth is survived by four children, Richard Fellows Keith of St. Augustine, FL and his wife, Nelda, Rockwood Keith, Jr., of S. Dartmouth, Ma., and his wife, Joan, Darilyn Farley of Mystic, CT; and Elizabeth Rachel Keith of S. Dartmouth, Ma.; two grandchildren, Courtney Russell Smith of Brooklyn, NY and Joshua Scott Keith of Lugano, Switzerland; and a brother, Carl Stenberg of Ft. Pierce, FL.
Ruth will be remembered, best for her remarkable energy, for her loving care of her family and friends and for her perpetual zest for life.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations to the Rockwood Keith Memorial Fund @ Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical School, One Medical Center Drive, Lebanon, New Hampshire 03756.
