Margaret Melchiono, a longtime Revere resident died Thursday at the Whidden Memorial Hospital, Everett. She was 92.
Mrs. Melchiono was born and raised in Boston’s North End, the daughter of the late Carmine and the late Adelaide (Barrassa) Melchionno.
After completing high school she opened a music store in Boston during the early period of the recording industry.
She soon established Peggy’s Beauty Shop, the first beauty shop in Boston’s North End. There she catered to the leading families Of the North End. With her sister Adelaide, she operated her Endicott Street shop for over 60 years. A pioneer in the beauty industry, she was among the first to model for Lydia O’Leary’s “Cover Mark” make-up. In the years after her retirement, Margaret, continued to take customers in her Revere home, until she was 90. She is remembered as “one of a kind” by her family and friends.
She was the beloved sister of the late Carmen Melchiono, Filomena Gaglione, Josephine Milano, Laura Verrico, and Adelaide Giordano. She was the devoted aunt of Carmine Melchiono of Medford, Ardie Vara of Medford, Verna David of Norwood, Inga Melchiono of FL, Grace Pizzano of Swampscott, Michael Verrico of FL, Lorraine Foley of Brockton, Ronald Verrico of Melrose, Donna Bumann of Peabody, Marilyn Milano of Everett, John Milano of Stoneham, the late Joseph Melchiono and Jerry Gaglione.
Her funeral will be from the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St., MEDFORD Tuesday at 9 AM. Followed by a funeral mass celebrated in St. Anthony Of Padua Church, 250 Revere St., Revere, at 10 AM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours Monday 4 thru 8. Services will conclude with burial at Holy Cross Cemetery, Malden.
