James A. Keigley of Reading formerly of Everett passed away on Thursday, December 25, 2008 at Kindred Hospital in Peabody. He was 74 years of age.
Jim grew up in Everett, graduating from Everett High School in 1952. He served his country in the United States Army and in later years, settled in Reading. He worked for many years as a consultant in the printing industry, carrying those skills over into his love and talent for photography. He volunteered as photographer and videographer for many locals events and groups, including Coolige Middle School’s Science Olympiad Team.
Jim offered many years of tireless service to the Town of Reading. He was a Town Meeting member for 15 years and a Finance Committee member for 9 years, with 2 years spent as Chairman. He worked for the polls at election time and volunteered with RCTV, the Conservation Commission, Reading’s Technology Advisory Committee and many other service organizations. He also served as Chairman of the Capital Improvements Advisory Subcommittee.
Jim’s dedication to excellence in education was evidenced by his service as an active School Committee member and his frequent participation in “Read Across America”, sponsored by the National Education Association. Jim also received the Distinguished Service Award from Eastern Middlesex ARC.
Jim was an avid and accomplished musician, playing clarinet as well as alto, tenor and baritone saxophone. His musical talent and love of music are what defined him most. He played with the Continentals, the Reading Civic Band, Woburn City Band, the Dane Street Church Band, the Avocates, the Salem State Bank and many others. He often played for the Reading VFW and Reading’s seniors and marched in many local parades. Jim’s music “buddies” were especially dear to him.
Jim’s friends were very important to him and he was never afraid to let them know that. His generosity of time and spirit, his sense of humor, and his kind heart will be missed by many.
Jim was the dear brother-in-law of Kay Fitzpatrick. He was the loving Uncle of Kathy McInerny and Mark Crecco. Jim is also survived by his close friends JoAnn and Paul Connolly.
A Funeral Service celebrating Jim’s life will be held on Friday at 12 p.m. in the Chapel of the Doherty - Barile Family Funeral Home 11 Linden St. READING. Parking is available in the municipal parking lot on Linden St.
