FAIRHAVEN — Sarah Jennings Hawes age 92, of Dartmouth, died Tuesday December 23, 2008, at Alden Court in Fairhaven, Ma. She was the wife of the late Frederick R. Hawes, to whom she was married on May 16, 1943.
Born in Dartmouth, she was the daughter of the late Ralph and Grace (Andrews) Jennings. She was a graduate of Westport High School class of 1933 and received her R.N. degree from St. Luke's Hospital School of Nursing in 1937. She did private duty nursing until marriage and then cared for her children and extended family.
Sarah was a longtime member of the Smith Mills Christian Congregational Church and the Tri Delta group there. She was extensively involved in various church activities, often in the kitchen.
She is survived by her son, Simeon Hawes and his wife, Bernadette of Barrington, R.I.; and daughters, Anna Hawes and her husband, Richard Paramoure of Taunton, Ma., and Grace Hawes Wyss and her husband, David of New York City; her sister, Anna Jennings Burlingame of Danielson, Conn.; two grandchildren, Sarah Wyss Bremer and her husband, Grant and Alen Wyss and his wife, Veronica; and four great-grandchildren, Simeon Bremer, Tobias Bremer, Abigail Wyss and Megan Wyss.
She was the sister of the late Stephen Jennings, Adoniram (Pink) Jennings, Ralph Jennings, Clara Jennings Hennessey and Chester Jennings.
Visitation will take place on Sunday, December 28, 2008, from 4-7 P.M. in the Wilson Chapel, 479 County St., NB. Her funeral will be on Monday at 11 A.M., in the Smith Mills Christian Congregational Church, 11 Anderson Way, Dartmouth, Ma. 02747. Remembrances in her name may be made to her church. Burial in Pine Grove Cemetery.
