Obituary

James L. Johnson, 49, of Salem, NH, funeral director at Douglas & Johnson Funeral Home, died Wednesday at Parkland Medical Center, Derry, NH after a long battle with diabetes and heart disease.

Jimmy was born in Lawrence, MA and grew up and was educated in Salem, NH, graduating from Salem High School in 1978. He graduated Cum Laude from the New England Institute of Anatomy & Embalming in Boston, MA, where he received the humanitarian award.

Jimmy was a co-founder of Douglas & Johnson Funeral Home in Salem, NH, where he started the firm with J. Tyler Douglas in 1991. He previously worked for Goundrey Funeral Home and Salem Coca Cola. Jimmy was past president of the New Hampshire Funeral Directors Association and was installed in 2006. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Bishop Peterson Council #4442 in Salem and the 4th degree Bishop Peterson Assembly # 0614. Jimmy was a member of the Derry Salem Elks, the Salem Chamber of Commerce, where in 1993 was co-chair of the ambassador committee, he served on the Salem VNA Board of Directors and he served with the United Way for several years.

Jimmy will always be remembered for his humor, his compassion for people and his commitment for serving families in the greater Salem and Windham area.

He is survived by his Daughter:

Parents Thomas Jr. & Dorothy (Richardson) Johnson of Salem, NH

Companion and Caretaker: Maureen Covey of Salem, NH

Brother: Thomas “Timmy” Johnson III of Salem, NH

Sisters: Linda & her husband Furman Kelly of Colorado
Susan & her husband Ralph Foster of Methuen, MA

Several Aunts, Uncles, Nieces, & Nephews, & Cousins

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Tuesday, Dec. 30 at 10 AM at St. Matthew Church, Windham, NH. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery, Salem, NH.

Calling hours will be held Monday, Dec. 29 from 2-7 PM at the Douglas & Johnson Funeral Home, 214 Main St, Salem, NH
