OBITUARY:
Taunton; Lawrence Shepherd Veitch, a Taunton resident for 17 years, died on Tuesday, December 23, 2008 at Morton Hospital and Medical Center, after a brief illness. He was 94 years of age.
He was the husband of Ovsanna (Harpootian)Veitch and the late Minerva (Elliott) Veitch. Mr. Veitch was a resident of Highland Street in Taunton, and had also lived in Nashua, New Hampshire and Rhode Island for many years.
He was born in Bloomington, Illinois; son of the late Andrew and Jane (Shepherd) Veitch. He was employed by Doehla Greeting Card Co. in Nashua, New Hampshire for over 30 years as personnel director.
Lawrence was a graduate of Illinois Wesleyan University in 1936, and also of Northwestern University. He was a veteran of W.W.II and served in the U.S. Army as a Lieutenant and was a Military Police Investigations officer.
He received the Asiatic Pacific Theater Campaign Ribbon, the Bronze Star, the American Theater Campaign Ribbon, the Good Conduct Medal, and the Philippine Liberation Ribbon.
Mr. Veitch was a 32nd Degree Mason; he brelonged to the Rising Sun Lodge Scottish Rite bodies in Nashua, N.H. and was also a member of the New Hampshire Consistory of 32nd Degree Masons.
Mr. Veitch was a member of St. Martin’s Episcopal Church in Providence and also attended St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Taunton.
He enjoyed foreign travel with his wife, who is a retired U.S.Foreign Service officer with the State Department.
Lawrence is survived by 1 daughter, Mrs. Michael (Susan) Fox of Providence, RI. He was also the brother of the late Edward Veitch and Lyle Veitch. He also leaves several nieces and nephews.
At his request, private funeral and burial services will be held at the convenience of the family. Burial will be at Bourne National Cemetery.
