WORCESTER
N. Mary “Mae” (Tangney) O’Brien, 92, of Worcester died Tues., Dec. 23 in St. Vincent Hosptial. Her husband Bernard F. O'Brien died in 1970. She leaves three children, Bernard A. O’Brien of Auburn, Marilyn D. and her husband Philip Dowd of Worcester and M. Norinne O’Brien of Worcester; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a brother, Donald J. Tangney of Townsend and nieces and nephews. A brother, John Tangney and three sister, Margaret Rafferty, Isabel Welsh and Eileen Lynch, predeceased her. She was born in Worcester, daughter of Bartholomew and Ellen (Brosnan) Tangney.
Mary was a secretary at St. Vincent Hospital, before retiring. She was a member of the Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians, the Ascension Chapter of the Notre Dame Alumni, the Xavier Club of St. John’s, the former Ascension Church and its Mother’s Club, the Guild of Our Lady of Providence. She did volunteer work for RSVP and at St. Bernard’s Church Health Clinic.
The funeral will be held Sat. Dec. 27, from CALLAHAN & FAY BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 61 Myrtle St. with a Mass at 10 AM in Christ the King Church, 1052 Pleasant St. Burial will be in St. John’s Cemetery. Visiting Hours are Fri., Dec. 26, from 5 to 8 PM at the funeral home.
