Mr. Pasquale F. "Patsy" Zona, age 78, died Monday, December 22, 2008 in Reading, at the Daniels House Nursing Home, after a lengthy illness. He was the devoted son of the late Antoinette (Cervone) & Frank Zona. Born in East Boston, Patsy was a Woburn resident for the last 47 years, formerly of Medford.
Patsy was a graduate of Medford High School class of 1948 and was a member of the 1947 Medford High School football team that was the class A state champ that played in the Florida Gator Bowl. In 1948 he was a member of the American Legion Baseball team, Medford Post 45 state champ. He was the owner of MM Sales which built and sold canteen trucks, located in Medford on Mystic Ave., and also the owner of a commercial real estate business, TZ Realty Trust also of Medford.
Patsy and his beloved late wife, Joan M. (Dixon), were very active with the friends of the Jimmy Fund of Boston. They were, among a handful of other members who established the original Friends of the Jimmy Fund-Boston which turned into the Ronald McDonald House.
Patsy is survived by his devoted children, Ronald F. Zona of Norwood, Anne M. County of Arlington, John J. Zona of Medford and the late Michael A. Zona. Loving grandfather of Michael L. Zona, Anthony J. Zona and Erica A. County. Brother of Marie Amerena and her husband Jim of Stoneham, and the late Tony Zona> Brother in law of Helen Zona of Medford.
Funeral from the McLaughlin-Dello Russo Funeral Home, 60 Pleasant St. Woburn, Monday at 9 AM. Followed by a funeral mass celebrated in St. Joseph Church, 100 Washington St., Woburn at 10 AM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours Sunday 4 thru 8. Services will conclude with burial at Oak Grove cemetery, Medford.
