Mary K. (McKay) Wordell, 76, of Mattapoisett died December 23, 2008 at St. Luke's Hospital after a long illness.
She was the wife of Walter J. Wordell.
Born in Boston she was the daughter of the late George H. and Margaret A. (Blessington) McKay. After marriage she lived in Ossining, NY for 33 years while summering in Mattapoisett, retiring to Mattapoisett in 1992.
Mrs. Wordell was a communicant of St. Anthony's Church in Mattapoisett.
She was formerly employed as a school teacher with the Stoughton, MA Public Schools, Ossining, NY Public Schools and Holy Name of Mary School in Croton, NY until retirement.
Mrs. Wordell was a graduate of Lesley College and received her Masters in Education degree from Boston State Teachers College.
Survivors include her husband; her son, David Wordell and his wife Sarah of Fairhaven; 4 daughters, Paula Spengeman and her husband Peter and Susan Rodriguez, all of Verplanck, NY, MaryBeth Rock and her husband Michael of Raleigh, NC and Julie Ford and her husband Philip of Carmel, NY; 12 grandchildren, Peter, Stephanie, Alfonso, Alyssa, Nicholas, Jesse, Matthew, Katherine, Nathaniel, Angelica, Amanda and Drew.
She was the sister of the late George P. McKay and Sr. Margaret Rita McKay, S.N.D.
Funeral from the Saunders-Dwyer Mattapoisett Home For Funerals, 50 County Rd. (Rt. 6) Mattapoisett Monday, December 29th at 10 AM. Funeral Mass at St. Anthony's Church, 22 Barstow St., Mattapoisett at 11 AM. Burial will follow in St. Anthony's Cemetery, Mattapoisett. Visiting hours Sunday, December 28th from 3-7 PM. Remembrances may be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, 2301 Stonehenge Drive, Suite 200, Raleigh, NC 27615 with a note to say "In memory of Mary Wordell for Angelica's Angels."
