Lucy (Khoury) Abbas, 87, a resident of Methuen, MA., passed away on Monday, December 22, 2008 at the Lawrence General Hospital.
Born in Methuen, Lucy was educated in the Methuen Schools and was a graduate of Searles High School. She then went on to graduate from St. John's School of Nursing in Lowell, MA. After a short time working as a nurse, Lucy took care of her family as well as working along side her husband Joseph Abbas who owned Abbas Bakery in Lawrence. Lucy was an active member of St. Lucy's Church in Methuen where she was a member of the St. Lucy's Sodality as well as the Altar Society. She also served as a Eucharistic Minister for the parish. Lucy had served as a volunteer at the Lawrence General Hospital. She was a loving and caring friend, mother and grandmother.
The widow of Joseph J. Abbas, Lucy is survived by her children: Joseph Donald Abbas and his wife Marilyn of Ponte Vedra Beach, FL., Paul Abbas and his wife Janet of Iowa City, IA., Marie Callahan and her husband John of West Hartford, CT., Jayne Abbas of Manchester, NH., Annette Abbas of Methuen, MA., and James Abbas and his wife Ranu Jung of Scottsdale, AZ.
Lucy is also survived by 9 grandchildren: Marlo Mann, Stephen Abbas, Sandra Abbas, Elizabeth Abbas, Joanne Abbas, Meghan Callahan, Daniel Callahan, Thomas Callahan and Nikhar Abbas.
She is also survived by 4 great grandchildren: Nicholas Mann, Natalie Mann, Ashton Abbas and Abigail Callahan.
a brother: Nicholas Khoury of Northridge, CA., and several nieces and nephews.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, December 27, 2008 at 12:30 P.M. in St. Lucy's Church in Methuen, MA. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery in Lawrence, MA., Family and friends may call on Friday, December 26, 2008 from 2 to 5 P.M. at the John Breen Memorial Funeral Home, Inc., 122 Amesbury St., Lawrence, MA.
