Salem: Leo E. Ouellette age 85 of Salem, died Monday, December 22, 2008, at the Grosvenor Park Nursing Home in Salem. He was the husband of the late Noella J. (Levesque) Ouellette.
Born and raised in Salem, he was the son of the late Napoleon and Agnes (Rainville) Ouellette. A veteran of W.W. II, Leo served with the U.S. Army in Normandy, Rhineland and Central Europe with the Headquarters Battery of the 989th Field Artillery Battalion for which he received several decorations and awards. Following his tour of duty, he returned to Salem and worked for the CBS Hytron cafeterias at several plant locations. Leo worked for a brief period of time for Spike Talbot’s Say Hi restaurant in Salem. In the 1950’s he began working for the City of Salem Street Department as a driver. He retired from the city in 1985 with 25 years service. Following his retirement, he worked part time for Advanced Automation, out of his home, for several years.
Leo was a devoted family man who loved bowling, doing puzzles and card games with family and friends. He was a member of the former St. Joseph Parish for many years and was currently a member of Ste. Anne Parish of Salem.
He is survived by 2 sons; Raymond E. Ouellette & his wife Martha of Georgetown, Henry L. Ouellette & his wife Jill of Salem, 4 daughters; Jeanne M. O’Donoghue & her husband Robert of Essex, Linda J. Philibert & her husband Jeannot of Matane, PQ, Canada, Rita A. Romanovitz & her husband Keith and Anne E. Conner & her fiancé Merritt Lyon all of Salem. He is also survived by 17 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Leo was predeceased by 2 brothers, Henry & Maurice Ouellette, 2 sisters, Irene Desilets and Doris Caithness.
Relatives and friends are invited to gather on Saturday, December 27, 2008 at 8 am at the Levesque Funeral Home, 163 Lafayette St., [Rt. 114 / 1-A] Salem for his funeral mass in Ste. Anne Church, Jefferson Ave., Salem at 9 am. Visiting hours: Friday 4 to 8 pm. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery, Salem.
