Obituary

DRACUT - David A. "Top Cat" Niemi Sr., 73, of Dracut, died Saturday evening in Lowell General Hospital. He was the beloved husband for 50 years of Stella M. (Brady) Niemi of Dracut.

Born in Lunenburg on January 15, 1935, he was a son of the late Waino A. and Marion (Beauregard) Niemi. He received his education in the Lowell school system.

An honorably discharged veteran, he served his country during the Korean War as an Airman Second Class in the United States Air Force earning a National Defense Service Medal.

Prior to his retirement, Mr. Niemi had been employed for 30 years as a machinist by Guilford Industries located in Iron Horse Park, Billerica, a subsidiary of the Boston and Maine Railroad.

In his free time he enjoyed fishing and bowling as well as being an avid sports fan watching the Red Sox and Patriots games. Additionally he enjoyed his retirement years working with his son's company Mark Niemi Electric of Dracut. He was a loving family man and cherished the time he spent in the company of his family.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons David A. Niemi Jr of Dracut, Robert M. Niemi and his wife Darlene of Nashua, NH and Mark A. Niemi and his wife Sharon of Dracut; six grandchildren Hollie Radcliffe and her husband Tyson of Milford, NH, David A. Niemi III of Lowell, Heidi DiVito and her husband James of N. Reading, William M. Niemi and his wife Mindy of Lowell, Heather Niemi of Nashua, NH and Catherine Niemi of Chelmsford; seven grandchildren Taylor, Emma, Emily and David A. Niemi IV, and James DiVito, Robert Radcliffe and Gino DiVito; one sister Marion Robertson of Stoughton; two sisters-in-law Helen Rouleau of Vero Beach, FL and Rita Tetrault of Nashua, NH; and many close nieces and nephews. He was also the brother of the late Robert and Ronald Niemi.

Friends may call at DRACUT FUNERAL HOME 2159 Lakeview Avenue, DRACUT, on Tuesday from 4 until 8 PM. His Funeral Service will be held at 8 PM Tuesday in the funeral home. Cremation to follow.
