Obituary

Donald A. Jackson, 86 years of Brockton, died December 20, 2008 at Signature Healthcare - Brockton Hospital after a period of failing health. Mr. Jackson was the dearly beloved husband of the late Winifred A. (Davis) Jackson for over 61 years; loving father of Rita (Brunetti) Shores and her husband Dale of Bridgewater, William Jackson and his wife Michelle Atchison of Norfolk, Virginia, James Jackson and his wife Cathy of Bridgewater, Michael Jackson and his wife Martha of Flower Mound, Texas, and Dr. Timothy Jackson and his wife Jennifer of Toronto, Canada. He was the devoted grandfather of Jennifer, Christopher and Caitlin Shores, Daniel and Christine Jackson, Kelly, Kevin, and Keith Jackson, Erin, Brendan, and Colleen Jackson, and Ryan and Morgan . He was also the great grandfather of Daniel Ryan, Meaghan and Mitchell Jackson. He was the brother of Ruth Ziehler of Feeding Hills, MA and the late Ansel, Lawrence, Rita, Beatrice and Claire Jackson.

He was born in Dexter, Maine, son of the late Albert and Isabelle (Paulin) Jackson. He was raised in Braintree and was a 1940 graduate of Braintree High School and had been a resident of Brockton for the past 61 years. Following high school, Donald enlisted in the Army and served in the South Pacific during WWII as a First Lieutenant in the 63rd Bombardment Squadron 43rd Bombardment Group. Following the war he attended Cornell University, met Winifred, the love of his life, and left school to be married. He had been employed at the Brockton Savings Bank and Randolph Savings Bank and retired from the City of Brockton after ten years. Donald was a member of the Brockton YMCA Heart Program, and had been active at Sacred Heart Church, the Knights of Columbus and volunteered for numerous associations in the Brockton Community. He enjoyed sports of all kinds and was an active member of DW Fields Golf Course for several years.

Funeral from the Conley Funeral Home, 138 Belmont Street (Rte 123) Brockton Wednesday at 8am. Funeral Mass in Christ the King Parish/St. Colman Church at 9am. Burial in Calvary Cemetery.
