Norman Jennings, of New Bedford, died Dec. 16 at Sippican Health Care in Marion. He was 92. A lifelong resident of the south end of New Bedford, he was the son of Cecil and Margaret (Miller) Jennings. He was the loving husband of 65 years of the late Elsie (Leach) Jennings. Beloved father of Pamela Beard and her husband Ronald of Mattapoisett, Norma Jennings of Huntingdon, PA, and David Jennings and his wife Julie of Marion. Grandfather of Christopher Beard, Rachel Hendry, George Phillips, David Phillips, Sarah Jennings, Matthew Jennings and great grandfather of Emma Hendry. Brother of Shirley Birch of Rockport and the late Hugh Jennings.
Mr. Jennings served in the US Army during WWII, and retired as a Master Sargeant , having served for 26 years. In 1943, he won the cherished Burrows Cup in England in lawn bowling and he continued with the sport at Hazlewood Park in New Bedford. He was a retired firefighter with the City of New Bedford with Station 11. As a young man, he sang in New York theaters under the stage name of Hal King. He was a member of the South Baptist Church, the Low Tide Yacht Club, and he was an avid golfer and gardener.A funeral service will be held on Fri. Dec. 19 at the South Baptist Church, Brock Ave., New Bedford at 9:30AM. Interment with military honors at the MA National Cemetery, Bourne at 11:30A
