Marjorie J. (Short) Alves, of Medford, died Friday evening at Glen Ridge Nursing Home. She was 89.
Marjorie was born and raised in Medford, the daughter of the late Thomas and the late Margaret (Sullivan) Short. Marjorie was a dedicated wife and mother who enjoyed the company of her large family and friends. A devout woman, she worked hard to raise her eight children and insisted that they all benefit from a grammar school education at St. Joseph’s.
She was the beloved wife of the late Edward J. Alves. She was a devoted mother to Mary Jane Donovan and her late husband Charles, Judith Ann Constantine and her husband Phillip, W. Kevin Alves and his wife Therese all of Malden, Edward J. Alves Jr. and his wife Nona of Burlington, Eugene Alves of Texas, Gerald Alves and his wife Janet, Michael Alves and his wife Janyce, Anthony Alves all of Medford. Marjorie is lovingly survived by 20 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and is the dear sister of Josephine McCarthy of Medford.
Her funeral will be from the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St., Medford, Tuesday at 9 AM followed by a funeral mass celebrated in St. Joseph Church, 118 High Street, Medford, at 10 AM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend and may visit with the family Monday 4 - 8. Services will conclude with burial at Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford.
