Obituary

WEST BOYLSTON- Walter A. Kistler, 82, formerly of West Boylston, died peacefully after a long illness on Friday, Dec. 12, 2008 at the Beaumont Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Westborough MA. He leaves his wife of 50 years, Joyce B. Kistler; three sons, Samuel A. Kistler of Edgartown, Nathaniel G. Kistler of Edgartown and Eric W. Kistler of Worcester; three grandchildren, Jeffrey, Samuel and Ashley.

He was born April, 27 1926 in Stockton CA., the son of the late Margaret C. and Dr. Samuel S. Kistler and lived more than 50 years in West Boylston. He graduated from Worcester Academy, went on to graduate from Clark University and received his Masters degree from Worcester Polytechnic Institute where he ended up as a professor of mechanical engineering for more than 40 years. During which he also consulted with numerous other engineering companies.

He was a member of the Worcester Torch club, the WPI rifle and pistol club, The Worcester rifle and pistol club and a life member of the NRA where he held a lifetime masters rating in pistol shooting. His summers were spent with his family either sailing the coast of New England and Nova Scotia, canoeing the lakes and streams of Maine or driving across the country to spend time with family in California. His interests also included forestry management, gunsmithing and collecting, hunting and fly fishing. He was a member of the First Congregational Church in West Boylston.

No service is planned and burial will be at the Mt. Vernon Cemetery in West Boylston in the spring. Donations may be made in his name to the Alzheimer's Association, 311 Arsenal Street, Watertown, MA. 02472.
