Joan M. Viel, 77, of Lawrence, Massachusetts, passed away on Friday, December 12th, 2008 at the Mary Immaculate Restorative Nursing Center in Lawrence, MA.
She was born in the Clover Hill Hospital on October 20th, 1931, daughter of the late Rene and Katharine (Guerin) Viel. Joan was educated in Saint Augustine's grammar school, class of 1945 and she was a graduate of the Lawrence High School in 1949. She later attended Sergeant College. She was an attendant of Our Lady of Good Counsel Parish, Saint Augustine's Chapel in Lawrence, MA.
Joan worked for the State of Massachusetts at the William X. Wall Experiment Station in Lawrence, Massachusetts for 20 years.
She enjoyed music, her friends, her volunteer work at Mary Immaculate and especially at the Saint Augustine Kinder Garden.
Joan was a member of the Tower Hill Neighborhood Association and supported many charities.

Her funeral mass will be celebrated on Monday, December 15th, 2008 at 10:30 a.m. in Our Lady of Good Counsel Parish, Saint Augustine Chapel, 128 Ames Street, Lawrence, MA.
Burial will follow at the Immaculate Conception Cemetery in Lawrence, MA.
