Obituary

Thomas O'Connor, age 98, of Westerly, RI, died Friday evening at the Westerly Health Center after an extended illness.

Mr. O'Connor was born in Kenmare County, Kerry Ireland on September 29, 1904 one of 8 children to Thomas and Julia (Fitzgerald) O'Connor. Raised in Ireland, he attended local schools.

He later moved to the United States, settling in New York.

Mr. O'Connor was employed as an Inspector for the US Army Quartermaster Corporation for 15 years before retiring in 1967.

A longtime resident of Brooklyn, NY, he moved to Westerly in November, 1998 to be closer to his daughter. While a resident of Brooklyn, he was a communicant of St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church and the Brooklyn Post, V.F.W. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing.

He was married to Stella Josephine (Shanley) O'Connor in Brooklyn NY. Mrs. O'Connor died in March, 1969.

Mr. O'Connor leaves his daughter, Estelle Ryerson of East Lyme, Ct., and Naples, Fla., a sister, Joan Gorman of Terryville, CT., 4 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a daughter, Julia Noonan, a sister, Margaret O'Leary, and and a grandson.

A Funeral Service will be conducted at the Long Island National (Pinelawn) Cemetery On Tuesday at 1pm. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. There are no visiting hours.
