Irene (Medeiros) Alvarnaz, age 81 of Fall River. Wife of Manuel T. Alvarnaz and daughter of the late Joao & Francisca (Faria) Medeiros. Passed away December 10, 2008. Born in Westport, she was a resident of the Fall River area for many years. She was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Church, a member of a cancer survivor group and a devout mother and wife. She also worked at Clifton Geriatric in Somerset in housekeeping.
She leaves behind her husband and she is survived by 4 children: Manuel Alvarnaz of Fall River, Irene Mele of Fall River, Ida Almeida of New Bedford and Theresa Papenfuss of Ohio. She was the mother of the late Lorraine Alvarnaz. She is also survived by 3 siblings: Antone Medeiros of Tiverton, Francis Coelho of FL and Eliza Quintal of Westport; 7 grandchildren: Angela Celli, Jennifer Ferguson, Desiree Alvarnaz, Jessica Botelho, McKayla Alvarnaz, Sean Alvarnaz and Lorian Alvarnaz; 4 great grandchildren: Christopher, Aaron, Dominic and Katie and several nieces & nephews. She was sister of the late John, Johnny F. and Manuel Medeiros, Mary Coelho, Antoinette Brule, Isabel Boore, Louisa Souza and Agnes Medeiros.
Her funeral will take place from the Manuel Rogers & Sons Funeral Home, 1521 N. Main St. Monday at 8 A.M. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Anthony of Padua Church at 9 A.M.
